Introductory note

Australian Privacy Principle (APP) 1 imposes an obligation on an APP entity to take reasonable steps to implement practices, procedures and systems that will ensure the entity complies with the APPs and any binding registered APP code and is able to deal with related inquiries and complaints. The below basic staff guideline template is just one means of implementing practices, procedures and systems to comply with APP 1. The below should be carefully reviewed and tailored to a specific organisation’s actual practices and procedures. Key stakeholders should be consulted and links to other policies and procedures included. The guidelines should be backed-up by regular staff training so that staff are familiar with their obligations.
